T. BOONE PICKENS APPLAUDS TOYOTA FOR RECOGNIZING NATURAL GAS AS “PRIME ENERGY-SOURCE FOR THE FUTURE”

Dallas, TX, September 25, 2008 – Below is a statement issued by T. Boone Pickens following the announcement by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. that it will display a compressed natural gas (CNG) Camry Hybrid concept vehicle at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

“I am happy that Toyota is showing an interest in pursuing CNG. I drive a Honda Civic GX Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV), which is currently the only NGV for sale in this country, and it’s on back-order. Americans need more options, and I’d only be happier if this announcement was coming from an American automaker.

“General Motors makes 18 models of NGVs, yet none are sold domestically. I’ve been all over the country talking to folks about the Pickens Plan, and one thing is clear: Americans want to get off foreign oil—now. Natural gas is the only immediate answer to replace oil as a transportation fuel. It’s cleaner, it’s cheaper, it’s abundant, and it’s ours. I hope that Toyota’s decision to pursue CNG will send a message to Detroit.

“Forty years without a comprehensive energy plan has put us far behind the rest of the world in terms of effective use of resources. Iran’s moved natural gas to transportation fuel so they can sell all their oil at $120 a barrel. Russia’s Gazprom is putting natural gas fueling stations all across Europe so they can do the same. Our leadership has done nothing except elevate our dependency on foreign oil to a staggering $700 billion a year. The Pickens Plan, in which natural gas plays a major role, is the only plan I’ve seen that can realistically reduce that dependency in the next decade.”

More than 400,000 people have joined the Pickens Army through the website, which has had over 8,000,000 hits. For more information on Pickens Plan, visit www.pickensplan.com .
